In this session, you'll learn how the Department of Defense (DoD) and Mission Health facilitated rapid vaccination protocols. Six years ago, Cerner proposed to the DoD a seldom-used commercial tool built for the mass delivery of flu vaccines. The intent was to meet its requirement for the rapid vaccination of military recruits and deployable personnel. Candidly, the commercial market for the capability was there, but the desire to prioritize spending on it was not, so Cerner didn’t invest considerably in it. In partnership with the DoD, Cerner evolved the tool considerably and it's now used in recruitment centers and in preparation for deployments as intended. Because the DoD is using Cerner’s commercial product, the tool became available for use by clients and Mission Health fully leveraged it. When COVID-19 began, the commercial environment needed such a product practically overnight. Fortunately for Cerner clients, the DoD-Cerner partnership ensured the tool was ready for primetime on day one.
